The islands of Ugljan and Pasman are known as recreational areas or 'home islands' for the Zadar region. Ugljan and Pasman are two adjacent islands off the coast of Zadar, connected by a bridge. Both islands are serviced frequently from the mainland (Ugljan Island: Zadar - Preko / Pasman Island: Biograd na Moru - Tkon). A 25-minute ferry ride from Zadar takes you to Ugljan Island, renowned for its forested bays, traditional villages, romantic hiking and biking trails, and beaches with crystal-clear water. The island features seven towns, all situated on the east side, facing the mainland.

Pasman Island spans approximately 21 km in length and 4 km in width and lies south of Ugljan Island, connected by a bridge. Pasman is a quieter island, perfect for relaxation and escaping the mass tourism of the Croatian mainland. Around 3,500 residents live on the island, in smaller villages that primarily depend on fishing and agriculture. Dugi Otok, located west of Ugljan and Pasman, faces the open Adriatic Sea. While Dugi Otok is serviced regularly, it is visited less frequently than the other two islands, especially in the off-season.
