Senj, with its 7,182 residents, is the oldest town on the upper Croatian Adriatic coast and is part of the Lika-Senj County. Located at the southernmost point of the Kvarner Bay, beneath the Velebit and Kapela mountain ranges, and just 51 km from Rijeka Airport, it serves both as a port city and a tourist destination, while charmingly preserving its original character.

The well-preserved medieval Nehaj Fortress, dating back to 1558, towers over the town and appears as if it was just recently built. Its massive walls with battlements and semi-towers make it look invincible, transporting visitors back to a time when the Uskoks could spot incoming ships from here and defended Senj against the Ottoman Empire. The Uskoks, a community of mixed ethnicities who fled from Turkish-occupied territories and were employed by the Habsburgs for defense, later turned to raiding coastal towns and were subsequently relocated. In the well-known children's novel "The Red Zora" by Kurt Held, the titular character leads a group of orphans who call themselves Uskoks and use Nehaj Fortress as their secret hideout. The film adaptation was shot on location, bringing fame to Senj. Strolling through the old town with its remnants of the city wall and beautiful palazzos, cafés and restaurants invite you to enjoy a refreshing drink or a delicious meal. The diverse local cuisine offers not only fresh seafood but also vegetables, lamb, and wine from the hinterland, as well as game, cheese, berries, and herbal brandies from the nearby mountains. Senj’s prime location also enhances its culinary delights. Popular beaches such as the town beach Skver, ideal for families with children, and the beaches Diga, Banjo, and Prova Drogo invite you to swim or dive in the crystal-clear waters. Those seeking more tranquility can find numerous secluded beaches around Senj. From here, you can also take trips to the nearby Northern Velebit National Park, where you can enjoy fishing, hiking, or cycling away from the tourist crowds. As a picturesque port town with a charming old town area and beautiful beaches, Senj attracts tourists seeking a more authentic Croatian experience. Investing in rental properties here can yield good returns during the tourist season. The town offers a range of amenities including cafes, restaurants, and shops. The local cuisine, featuring fresh seafood and produce from the hinterland, adds to the quality of life.

We also offer properties for sale not only directly in Senj but in the picturesque village of Jablanac, 37 kilometers south of Senj, with its charming harbor, as well as in the towns of Lukovo, Starigrad kod Senj, and Prizna.
