1 Kuna houses in Croatia for sale for 13 cents.
The 13 cent houses or 1 kuna houses (or houses at a symbolic price) in Croatia are part of an initiative launched by the municipality of Legrad to stop people moving away and to bring new life to dying villages and towns.
The concept is similar to initiatives in other European countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal, where houses are also sold at symbolic prices to counter population decline.
Houses and building plots in Croatia for sale for one kuna / 13 cents
Many rural areas in Croatia, as in other European countries, suffer from heavy outward migration, especially of young people moving to larger cities or abroad. This leads to an ageing population and a large number of empty houses and buildings - for smaller municipalities this can mean economic decline.
By selling property at symbolic prices, the municipalities hope to attract new residents who will invest in the houses, renovate them and stimulate economic activity in the local communities, and in Legrad tourism as well. This can revive the local economy and create jobs.
The municipality of Legrad is a small municipality near the Hungarian border on the Mura and Drava, two rivers that shape the landscape. Legrad has a population of around 2,200.
According to the mayor of the municipality of Legrad, Mr Ivan Sabolic, the municipality regularly offers new properties at the symbolic price of 13 cents (formerly 1 kuna). Besides houses in need of renovation, these include building plots. The properties can be bought not only for your own use but also for tourist use. For further information, please contact the municipality of Legrad directly.
